Westfield cruised to victory in its regular-season finale, beating Pike 72-46 Thursday at CSI Gymnasium.
The Class 4A No. 3 Shamrocks outscored the Red Devils in all four quarters, leading 18-10 after one. Durante Morton had six points in the opening period. Westfield led 32-16 at halftime, then extended that advantage to 49-30 after three quarters. Will Harvey made two 3-pointers in the third.
The Shamrocks sprinted to the finish line with 23 points in the fourth quarter. Drew Haffner helped out with seven points. Nine different Westfield players scored during the game.
Four Shamrocks reached double figures. Trey Buchanan led the way with 16 points, including four triples. Nic Book added 15 points; he and Buchanan scored in every quarter. Harvey totaled three 3s on his way to 11 points and Morton finished with 10 points.
Westfield completed the regular season at 19-2, which is the best regular-season record in school history. The ‘Rocks will play in Sectional 8 next week, taking on the winner of Tuesday’s Noblesville-Zionsville game in the Friday, March 1 semifinal at 6 p.m.
