Sue Maki, a 34-year Hamilton County resident, has filed for re-election for Hamilton County Council. She is currently serving in her first term in as an At-Large Councilor and holds the position of Vice President of Council.

Over the last four years, Maki built on the success of Hamilton County. Through her work on the County Highway Committee, the improvements of intersections on 146th Street are underway, including Allisonville Road and coming soon to Hazel Dell Parkway. These improvements will make it much safer to navigate this very busy thoroughfare. As the liaison to the County Extension Board, Maki has championed work that has finally begun on the $15 million expansion of the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Maki served as the County Council representative on the American Rescue Plan Act committee, investing more than $65 million in federal funding for lasting and transformative projects throughout the county. She also revamped and streamlined the county’s non-profit grant process, which awards over $850,000 to Hamilton County-serving non-profit organizations.

County Council is the fiscal body for the county. The achievement and maintenance of the AAA bond rating is testament to the conservative and thoughtful manner Maki and her County Council colleagues oversee the spending decisions for the county. Hamilton County is the only county in Indiana to have a AAA bond rating.

Maki has a long history of leadership within Hamilton County and community service dedication. She previously served as President of the Hamilton County Solid Waste Board, President of the Hamilton County Tourism Commission, President of The Rotary Club of Carmel, and President of the Carmel Middle School PTO.

Making an impact across all towns and cities in Hamilton County, Maki served as Executive Director of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy from 2000 to 2003. She is also a 1999 graduate. Maki spent 18 years in the insurance industry, with most of those years being in a leadership role.

Maki has been married to her husband Tom Kapostasy for almost 42 years, has two grown sons, and a daughter-in-law. Her first grandchild is expected early April 2024.
