March 19, 1926 – January 10, 2024
Wayne Francis Hunter, 97, Atlanta, passed away on January 10, 2024, at The Waters of Tipton, Ind.
He was born on March 19, 1926, in Atlanta to Raymond and Nettie (Tudor) Hunter. He grew up on a farm near Atlanta, attended local schools, and graduated from Arcadia High School. Being on a farm, he assisted with the chores that included taking care of the beef cattle and chickens and often mending fences. His family remembered that every summer the women of the family would prepare food baskets for lunch and spend the day at the Indiana State Fair.
Wayne was first married to Rosalie (Nightenhelser) Hunter, and they were blessed with four children.
Wayne worked 34 years at Firestone Rubber Company in Noblesville, and also continued farming. A son, Brian, relayed that his father was not very mechanically minded, but (Brian) liked to work on motorcycles and dirt bikes. Wayne became interested and they started working together. To their surprise their little hobby became profitable.
Wayne married Donna Marie (Haskell) Hunter on August 10, 1971, and she passed away on December 10, 2022. Wayne liked country music and he and his wife liked to travel to Branson, Mo., to enjoy the shows that were performed there.
In addition to his wife, Donna, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted Hunter; his siblings, Charles Hunter, Lee Hunter, Joyce Moon, Martha Forsythe, Evelyn Hunter, Marjorie Hunter, and Marie Hunter; and a granddaughter, Harley Hunter.
Surviving him are daughters, Beverly Poindexter of Cicero, Bec Hunter-Barnett of Cicero, and Cindy Cooper of Whitestown; sons, Jerry Hunter of Omega and Brian Hunter of Atlanta; a sister, Viola (Hunter Koker) Jones of Kempton, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, Nick, Tracy, Wendy, Cory, Jamie, Dustin, Brittany, Lonnie, Rebecca, Cliffton, Teagan, Kade, Casey, Axle, and Christian; plus several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with burial to follow at Arcadia Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from noon until time of the services. Rev. Jody Brown will officiate.
