The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville recently announced a new initiative with Smoke-Free Hamilton County for the months of March and April.
During this initiative, Club Members will participate in a variety of anti-tobacco programming ranging from small group discussions to large community advocacy activities. Members will begin by researching the harmful health and financial effects of tobacco and then create artwork that delivers a powerful message to consumers.
The artwork will then be displayed to over 2,000 people at the Basketball Spectacular and judged by community leaders. The winning artwork will be featured on billboards in Hamilton County, on placemats at local restaurants, and in advertisements with a local newspaper.
Holly Wheeler, Program Coordinator for A Smoke-Free Hamilton County said, “The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville’s commitment to teaching their members about the dangers of tobacco is invaluable to their health and the health of our community. The events they’ve planned for Kick Butts Day are a testament to this. Their willingness to collaborate has re-energized youth tobacco prevention in Hamilton County.”
“This partnership will allow our staff to facilitate activities and events that generates community awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use,” said BGCN Unit Director, Abigail Rinehart. “It gives our members an outlet to voice their concerns on tobacco use within Hamilton County. “
