Disposal options for suburbanite Hamilton County residents
Carmel
According to the City of Carmel Utilities website, the city’s residential trash program includes pickup of one live Christmas tree per home. Republic Services will collect the tree on the regular service day during the first two weeks of January.
- Trees must be cut in sections four feet or less. If the tree section is longer than four feet, it will not fit into the cage at the top of the truck.
- Remove all tree bags, ornaments, tinsel and stands.
- Artificial trees will not be accepted.
Additionally, according to the Visit Hamilton County website, a free Holiday Tree Recycling Day will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, in the Central Park Westermeier Commons parking lot, 920 Central Park Drive West. This event is presented by Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR).
Come by the to drop off your decoration-free tree and enjoy a warming beverage on CCPR. Your tree will be recycled into mulch and put to good use in the community. Volunteers under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Fishers
According to the This Is Fishers website and the city’s website, the city’s free Christmas Tree Recycling program will run dawn to dusk now through Feb. 1, 2024. Live Christmas trees will be accepted for recycling at the following locations:
- Brooks School Park (parking lot, gated area)
- Cumberland Park (first parking lot)
- Roy G. Holland Memorial Park (parking lot, gated area)
Recycling is for bare, live trees only. Please ensure that all lights, decorations, and tinsel are removed, and do not place the tree inside a plastic bag.
Noblesville
While the City of Noblesville website has no information about Christmas tree collection or recycling this year, details about next year are available. If you’d like to plan that far ahead, Christmas tree collection will begin on Dec. 26, 2024, and run through Jan. 10, 2025.

Regarding this year, according to Noblesville Press Secretary Robert Herrington, Republic Services will collect Christmas trees from Tuesday, Dec. 26 until Friday, Jan. 10. Trees will be collected on the same day and in the same location as residents’ trash/recycle collection. Please note that trees must be cut into sections of no more than four feet per section and placed inside the trash cart so that the automated arm of the trucks will be able to place them in the truck. Trees lying on the ground besides trash containers will not be collected.
The Noblesville Street Department will pick up whatever does not get picked up by Republic. Call (317) 776-6348 with any questions.
Westfield
According to the Guest Services FAQ PDF available at this link, city resident can dispose of their Christmas trees in the following manner:
- Ray’s will pick up one Christmas tree per household at no additional charge to the customer. This service is available through Friday, Jan. 12. Trees must be cut down into four sections in order to be accepted.
- Whenever a holiday falls on a regular schedule collection day, the collection schedule for that day as well as the rest of the week will be delayed one day. Under this circumstance, Saturday collection is acceptable.
