On Tuesday, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Indiana ABC Prep Academies and the Hamilton County Health Department to hold a CPR, AED, Choking, and Stop the Bleed courses for students at the Sheriff’s Office Complex, 18100 Cumberland Road, Noblesville.

These same students will also construct training equipment, obstacles, and props in their shop classes for the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Unit, allowing deputies to train and be better prepared for their jobs.

Health Department Health Education Specialist Jim Ginder taught the courses.

More about ABC

The ABC Construction Prep Academy is a two-year program with an emphasis on the carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades. The first year of the program is designed to help students understand through experiential exposure if a career in the construction trades is right for them and if so, what trade might be right for them. The second year of the program provides students with a deeper immersion into the skills required for a successful career in the construction trades. An emphasis on developing a good work ethic such as timeliness, teamwork, and leadership are provided throughout the program.

“Our goal is not just to train students but to train with an end result in mind: that is a successful career in the commercial construction trades with aligned postsecondary adult ABC apprenticeship opportunities,” Director of Outreach Robert Kneberg said.

ABC Prep Academy appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Hamilton County Health Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to provide CPR, AED, Choking, and Stop the Bleed training to students. ABC is also grateful for the opportunity develop a real-world project in building an obstacle course for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

A special thanks goes out to the following companies for supporting the development of these obstacles through the donation of supplies and materials: Architectural Glass and Metal Company (agmcompany.com), Berline Construction (765-778-3174), Design & Build Electrical Engineering and Contractors (designbuildeng.com), and Project CSI (projectcsi.com).

“This is truly a great public/private collaborative effort to develop the next generation of tradespeople,” Kneberg said.

ABC is accepting enrollments at the Lebanon Prep Academy, Crawfordsville High School Prep Academy, Decatur Central High School Prep Academy, Fishers Prep Academy, and Ft. Wayne Prep Academies for the 2024-2025 school year.
