No. 9 Greyhounds overwhelmed on road against Kentucky second-ranked Trinity

The REPORTER

On Friday, the Carmel Greyhounds knew they had their work cut out for them in facing Kentucky’s second-ranked Trinity Shamrocks on the road.

It turned out to be that much more than the ‘Hounds could handle. Before they knew it, they were down three touchdowns and facing an uphill battle for the remainder of the night.

Running back Clint Sansbury was able to do what he wanted on the ground. He first scored midway through the first on a five-yard run that put Trinity up 7-0.

It took until the middle of the second when the host Shamrocks scored again. It was Sansbury again, this time from 20-yards away for 14-0.

Not even two minutes later, Trinity kept rolling. Quarterback Zane Johnson threw a touchdown pass and the hosts were up 21-0 late in the first half.

Carmel got their first score in the final minute of the second quarter. Anthony Coellner found Jacob Bellin for a 29-yard scoring strike to trail 21-7 at halftime.

Trinity showed in the third why it’s one of the top teams in Kentucky.

Two more TD catches from Lynn, his second and third of the game and another run for Sansbury and the Shamrocks were out in front 41-7.

Christian Peterson scored the second Greyhound touchdown with just over five minutes left when he returned a blocked field goal 37-yards that made the final of 41-14.

Coellner carried five times for 37 and Alijah Alfayyad eight for 29. Coellner was three for 114 yards, completing 11 of his 19 passes, but also threw two picks.

Bellin’s 29-yard TD catch, Nate Rogers grabbing three for 40 and Alfayyad four for 27 highlighted the Carmel offense.

Carmel (2-2) hosts Lawrence North (4-0) next Friday.
