Two Royals teams win at John Cleland Invitational, other county teams compete at events across the state

Several Hamilton County cross country teams participated in the John Cleland Invitational, hosted by Zionsville last Saturday at Northview Church in Carmel.

There were four 4K events, with both boys and girls teams competing in Freshman/Sophomore and Junior/Senior races. The Hamilton Southeastern boys won the Freshman/Sophomore event, with three runners placing in the top five. That included sophomore Liam Powers, who won that race in 12 minutes, 51.6 seconds. Carmel was second as a team, with freshman Jonah Kaul second individually.

In the Junior/Senior girls race, the Royals led a 1-2-3 team county finish. Southeastern scored 58 points, with senior Maggie Powers placing second. Noblesville placed second with 66 points; Millers seniors Nadia Perez and Summer Rempe were third and fourth respectively.

Southeastern placed third in the Junior/Senior boys race as a team, and had the fastest county individual: Senior Andrew Smith placed sixth. Carmel was the top county team in the Freshman/Sophomore girls race by placing fifth. The top county individual was Hamilton Southeastern freshman Anissa Lammie.

The Fishers cross country teams both finished second at the Brownsburg 4K tournament last Saturday.

In the boys race, Fishers finished a close second to Brownsburg, 39-40 in the four-team event. Avon was third with 61 points and Danville fourth with 102.

The Tigers had the top two runners, with Sam Quagliaroli the race winner in 12:04.67 and Matthew Kim second in 12:20.96. Fishers’ other top seven runners were Bryson Slagle (11th, 13:00.66), Nate Thomas (12th, 13:02.17, Henry Wood (14th, 13:07.90), Parker Melling (15th, 13:07.98) and Dylan Wold (18th, 13:14.28).

The Tigers’ girls scored 33 points, behind Brownsburg’s 27 and ahead of Danville’s 76. Fishers was led by Addie Kane, who took third in 16:03.14. Isabella Murch was fourth in 16:08.17 and Abby Lotter placed fifth in 16:09.85.

Rounding out the Tigers’ top seven were Ashley Wright (10th, 16:33.69), Katelyn Thomas (11th, 16:36.73), Charlotte Lawrence (12th, 16:56.67) and Grier Swaim (13th, 17:02.92).

Westfield competed at the Plainfield Invitational last Saturday.

The invitational was run in a Hokum Karem format, with two runners combining for a time and position. The top three scores counted for the team total.

The Shamrocks’ girls team won their division, scoring 25 points. The team of senior Liz Smith and freshman Liv Lozier placed second in a time of 34:24.50, with Emily Loiselle and Gianna Ferreri finishing eighth in 36:59.50. Jordyn Landrum and Ella Bozarth rounded out the team scoring by taking 15th (37:27.09). Sam Plummer and Izzy McCulloch were 29th (40:21.68) and Izzy Rudin and Lina Abriani were 40th (40:24.33).

Westfield’s boys finished second as a team, scoring 32 points to Mount Vernon’s 13 points. The ‘Rocks were led by Jack Loiselle and Landon Jones, who finished ninth in 30:56.61. Will Snedeker and Owen Mohler were 12th (31:19.03) and Ian Porter and Caleb Haney placed 14th (31:32.20). Owen Ferreri and Caub Douthit placed 23rd (32:12.00) and Owen Dilley and Ty Conner took 27th (32:22.47).

Noblesville’s boys teams placed second at the Huntington North Invitational last Saturday.

The Millers scored 65 points, behind only Concordia Lutheran, the winner with 53 points. John Libs was Noblesville’s top runner, placing second in a time of 16:15.82. Luke Mumaw was 13th, clocking in at 16:58.24, while Caden Jackson took 15th with a time of 17:01.54. The Millers’ other top seven runners were Jack Shinneman (16th, 17:01.99), Jude Naville (19th, 17:13.91), Cooper Click (20th, 17:15.44) and Grant Cummings (22nd, 17:18.06).
