The Indiana Bulls Baseball and Indiana Nitro organizations may normally compete against each other on the field, but on Tuesday the two teamed up to support one player’s toughest at bat.
Eleven-year-old Logan Gellert, an Indiana Nitro 11U player, is currently battling Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer. When Indiana Nitro Baseball was looking to raise funds for Gellert and his family, the Indiana Bulls did not hesitate to step up to the plate and help.
“What Logan is going through is awful, challenging and something no kid should have to face,” Indiana Bulls Director of Operations Scott French said. “We’re excited to join with Indiana Nitro to not only ‘compete,’ but to come together for a cause greater than wins or championships.”
Indiana Bulls and Indiana Nitro teams in every age group, from 9-17U, played in the #LoganStrong benefit at Grand Park Sports Complex. All players wore gold #LoganStrong jerseys, representing the childhood cancer awareness ribbon. Bullpen Tournaments donated the fields and BSN Sports donated the uniforms for the event.
“As we began our campaign to help Logan and his family, we were all quickly reminded that there is more to life than baseball,” Indiana Nitro Director of Operations Chris Poland said. “We reached out to the baseball world for help and the response has been humbling. In the bottom of the 9th and with the game on the line, the Indiana Bulls and Bullpen Tournaments have stepped up to the plate to help us walk this one off. We can’t thank everyone enough.”
Prior to the games, Gellert threw out the first pitch to eight-time Gold Glove winner, seven-time MLB all-star and Indiana Bulls alum Scott Rolen.
Fans paid a $10 admission to the game, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting Gellert and his family.
