YMCA of Greater Indianapolis hiring hundreds for summer

Virtual job fair planned for May 3

The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is preparing to hire more than 650 fun-loving people aged 14 and up to work as lifeguards, swim instructors, camp counselors and camp site directors for the coming summer.

With 15 day-camp locations in Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks and Marion counties and 10 indoor and outdoor pools, the YMCA offers a variety of locations and work schedules, and those hired for the jobs will enjoy a wide range of benefits, including onsite childcare, reduced rates for camps, free Y memberships and more.

“You won’t find jobs more fun than these,” said Natasha Bellak, Vice President of Youth Development. “You’ll spend your days doing fun activities, enjoying the summer weather and helping people have a good time.”

Free training is provided for all positions, including aquatic safety, first aid, risk management and child-abuse prevention.

For day camps, the YMCA will be hiring nearly 500 people aged 16 and older to provide programming for children and serve in all camp positions. Hourly pay ranges from $10 to $16.50 depending on the position, and all positions qualify for a signing bonus of $250. Day camp employees are eligible for discounted childcare, and they will receive all necessary training free of charge.

The YMCA will hire 150 to 200 people to staff indoor and outdoor pools as lifeguards, swim instructors and more, with free training and positions available for applicants as young as 14. Flexible schedules mean the jobs can be worked in around sports, band practices, other jobs and more. These positions pay $9.25 to $15 and qualify for a $250 sign-on bonus.

Some jobs could evolve into year-round positions.

The YMCA will hold a virtual hiring fair on May 3. To participate, click here to visit the Indeed website and select your sign up time.
