Wrestling: Westfield, Carmel have perfect days at events

The Westfield wrestling team took care of business at the Cascade Invite on Tuesday, winning the tournament.
The Shamrocks cruised through their first three duals, beating Columbus East 52-15, Greencastle 61-15 and Cascade 69-12. In the final round, Westfield won a back-and-forth dual with Avon, taking the last two matches by fall to grab a 37-31 victory.
Six Shamrocks wrestlers finished the event 6-0: Dylan Driver (at 113 pounds), Braxton Vest (120), Thadeus O’Neill (126), Austin McClure (170), Gabe Arvin (195) and Mike Platonov (285). Ike O’Neill was 3-0 at 132, with Hank Temples winning his 132-pound match. Alec McLaren (138) and Seth Martin (182) both were 3-1.
The Shamrocks return to action next Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Zionsville.

Carmel swept the Mooresville Holiday Duals on Tuesday with a 4-0 record.
The Greyhounds beat Lebanon 67-12, Mooresville 50-21, Yorktown 59-18 and Greenwood 72-6. Gavin Thompson, Eitan Halevi, Brac Hooper, AJ Gunn, Nathan Powell, Robert Major, Jake Shafer and Billy Kepler all had 4-0 records on the day. Jackson Elliott was 3-0, while Gannon McDonald went 2-0. Luke Farling and Samuel Johnson both had 3-1 records for the tournament.
