Wrestling: Millers, Huskies get two champs each at Super Six

The wrestling season opened in Hamilton County on Saturday, with Noblesville traveling to Hamilton Heights for the Huskies Super 6.
The Millers, in their first meet under new head coach Michael Weimer, went 2-3 for the day. Noblesville beat Heights 43-21 and Tipton 40-34, falling to Lawrence Central 45-34, North Central 54-18 and team champion Pendleton Heights 51-19.
Two Miller wrestlers went undefeated for the day and were thus crowned champions in their respective weight classes. Dalton Huffman was a 5-0 perfect at 126 pounds and Justin Johnson-Sparks went 5-0 at 132 pounds.
Tim Alexander (at 106) and Gary Kitko (at 138) both finished 4-1 at the event, while Zack Perkins (at 152) went 3-1.
“I was excited about the team,” said Weimer. “Today was a learning experience for myself and everyone.”
Weimer is pleased with his team’s enthusiasm and said his wrestlers are trying everything he’s showing them.
“The atmosphere is something very exciting,” he said.
The host Huskies finished 1-4 for the day. Heights beat Tipton 55-18 for its win, then fell to Pendleton 45-24, North Central 58-18, Lawrence Central 45-33 and Noblesville.
Heights had two champions as well. Cordell Cowan went 5-0 at 132 pounds, with Bobby Williams winning all five matches at 160. Alex Naylor finished 4-1 for the day at 220 pounds, with Devoe Henson (at 113), Luke Stohler (at 170) and Noah Lawson (at 195) all going 3-2.
ROYALS SECOND AT HURRLE INVITE
Hamilton Southeastern finished second out of 24 teams at the John Hurrle Memorial Invitational Saturday at Arsenal Tech.
The Royals scored 430.5 points, behind only Warren Central’s 557. Three Southeastern wrestlers took home championships: Ronan Hiner at 160, Andrew Irick at 195 and Crae Kunkleman at 220.
Finishing second with 4-1 records were Jacob Simone at 106, Sam Crousore at 113, Reece Luhmann at 126 and Blake Forbes at 132. Jesse Wagner finished fifth at 126 pounds with a 4-1 mark, as did Aaron Frazeur at 220 pounds.
Southeastern will be back in action Nov. 28 at Avon.
WESTFIELD IS CAPITAL CITY RUNNER-UP
Westfield also opened its season with a second-place finish, at the Capital City Classic at Beech Grove on Saturday.
The Shamrocks were runners-up to Perry Meridian, with Jeffersonville third.  Carson Eldred won the 113-pound division in a dominating fashion, going 5-0 with three falls. Junior Kyle Saez (at 152) and freshman Dylan Driver (at 106) each placed second with 4-1 marks, recording an additional five falls between the two of them.
Third-place finishers for Westfield were Luke Brogan at 126, Milo Merkel at 132, Noah Robinson at 145 and Ryan Mahoney at 182.
