In conjunction with the National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 16, Horseshoe Prairie Chapter DAR members placed wreaths on the graves of four Revolutionary War patriots: John Hair, Levi Holloway, George Dale, and Davis Whelchel, Sr.

The Chapter participated in the Patriot Pair program by donating wreaths for placement at veterans graves, and received wreaths to lay at the gravesites of Revolutionary patriots buried in Hamilton County. Members laying wreaths were Traci Rush and Pam Bollier at Hair Cemetery, Cheryl Garlinger at Carey and Riverside cemeteries, and Ellen Germaine and Jane Tracey at Whelchel Cemetery.

It is the mission of the National Wreaths Across America Day in December each year to “Remember, Honor and Teach by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, and at more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.”   For more about Wreaths Across America, visit WreathsAcrossAmerica.org.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a women’s service  organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today’s DAR is dynamic and diverse, and over one million members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890.
