Shots fired in Westfield Kroger parking lot robbery
Westfield police say a man approached a woman in the parking lot of the Kroger located near State Road 32 and Carey Road on Wednesday evening and attempted to steal her purse but was unsuccessful.
The suspect fled the Kroger parking lot in a white, four-door vehicle with the victim giving chase with a young child in her vehicle.
Police say during the chase the suspect fired several shots out the window of his vehicle at the victim, who eventually crashed her car into a nearby retention pond. Both the woman and her young child were able to safely get out of the vehicle before it submerged.
Police are continuing their search for the robbery suspect and the vehicle involved. The suspect is described as a black man with short hair, clean-shaven, mid-30s, approximately 5-foot-6, 260 pounds and wearing a dark blue T-shirt with jeans and tennis shoes.
