Witnesses help pedestrian struck by vehicle in Carmel

At 5:25 p.m. on Thursday, the Carmel Police Department (CPD) responded to an accident with injury on Westfield Boulevard near Wood Valley Drive.

Jessica Smiley, 39, Carmel, was driving northbound on Westfield Boulevard in a white Honda Accord. Charles Jennings, 71, Carmel, was walking east across Westfield Boulevard from Central Park. Jennings walked into the path of Smiley’s vehicle and was struck. Based on the preliminary investigation, Smiley’s view was obstructed by southbound traffic.

CPD thanks the witnesses and motorists who stopped to assist and aid to Jennings until medics from the Carmel Fire Department arrived. Jennings sustained several fractures and was transported to St. Vincent Hospital on 86th Street by ambulance.

This case is still under investigation.
