Fishers baseball is having another great season. The Tigers came into the week as one of the best teams in the state, ranked third in 4A, and have championship aspirations.

One of the main reasons for the success is outfielder Zander Carnahan. He leads Fishers in hits, runs, and RBIs.

“This year, my confidence levels have been as high as they can get,” Carnahan said. “I know I got guys behind me. If I mess up, they’ll have my back. And just believing in myself and putting forth the best effort every game, we got the aggression that it takes to win ball games.”

“He works hard in the classroom,” Fishers baseball coach Matthew Cherry said. “He challenges himself with some advanced and high level classes. He’s an ultimate competitor.”

This is Carnahan’s first season at Fishers after previously playing at Cathedral.

Even though this is his first season at Fishers, he has embraced being a senior leader.

“I’m a vocal and leader by example,” Carnahan said. “I definitely like to talk a lot, whether it’s in the outfield or on the mound.”

He thinks that team chemistry is going to be the key for the team to make it to Victory Field for the state championship.

“Obviously going to Victory Field is every team’s goal,” Carnahan said. “We have a lot of belief that we’re going to do that. So every game, we think this is just one step in the right direction to winning a state championship.”
