William Jay Burkhardt, 64, Cicero, passed away on February 13, 2022, at Riverview Health in Noblesville after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Bill, as he was fondly known, was born on December 4, 1957, in Noblesville, to Charles Richard and Elizabeth Kepner (Heinzman) Burkhardt. He was raised on a farm and attended schools in northern Hamilton County. He was a 1976 graduate of Hamilton Heights High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball, track, and cross country. He then furthered his education at Butler University and at Purdue University where he took the Agriculture Short Course. Bill was a farmer at heart and he returned to the family farms to work with his family.
Bill served on the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department and the White River Township Advisory Board. He was a member of the Lapel Fraternal Order of Eagles where he also served on their Advisory Board. Leisure time would find him working crossword puzzles and working Sudoku math brain games.
Surviving him is his father, Charles R. Burkhardt; sister, Linda (David) Kelly of Romeo, Mich.; and John (Patricia) Burkhardt of Cicero; plus several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his mother, Elizabeth Kepner Burkhardt; and a brother, Charles Michael Burkhardt.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with a time of visitation from 2 p.m. until time of the services. Burial will occur at a later date at Cicero Cemetery.
