What is the actual point of English class?
In my experience, we read a lot of classic literature, poems, and many more readings from different authors. We learn how to write essays and learn different types of vocabulary to use in our daily lives. We also learn how to comprehend what the author is trying to say to us with his way of words. This is the problem. What is the point of reading old types of literature?
In my opinion, we do not need to learn how to comprehend most of the literature in the past. What is the point? We do not use that type of literature anymore. We read it and then we’re done with it. Nobody tries to use this type of writing throughout their lifetime. This is why I think parts of English class should change.
Some parts that need to change are that the reading of classic literature should get thrown out. The classical literature needs to be replaced by things that are used through daily life. Some of the things we need to work on are resumes for college. We work on them once throughout the year and that’s it. This would be more beneficial because this is part of the way of trying to get into a college. It will also help in trying to get hired for a job.
Another thing we need to implement into class is how to write a formal email. This would help when trying to write to your boss or your teachers. Also, one more addition to be made is the use of graphs and charts. This will help for trying to sell all types of items to a company. It can help with organizing different types of products getting sold and the benefits to the product. This could benefit us for adulthood more than any type of classical literature could.
In the end, we need to change the course for English class. We need to implement more of how to write resumes and how to write formal emails. Another implement that needs to be added is the use of graphs and charts. This will be more beneficial than learning something and throwing it away when you’re done with school.
