The latest episode of American Structurepoint’s Making Our Point podcast explores environmental engineering as a career choice. This is the third in a series of podcasts that focus on the different types of engineering to help young adults determine whether engineering is right for them.
Catherine Pallotta, American Structurepoint utility infrastructure practice leader, shares examples of projects environmental engineers often tackle. Utility infrastructure is another term for environmental engineering focusing on drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. Pallotta provides excellent insights for people considering an environmental engineering career, such as qualifications needed, what to expect when entering the field, career paths and salary ranges for civil engineers, and more.
Environmental engineers design projects that improve the quality of life where people live, work, and play. They help protect public health by designing systems to deliver safe drinking water. They protect the environment by designing wastewater and stormwater systems. They also design improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment plants or design new infrastructure to meet the demands of growing areas.
“With the boost in federal infrastructure funding specific to water and wastewater, environmental engineers are in demand, including here at American Structurepoint,” Pallotta said. “Because of the size of the American Structurepoint utility infrastructure group, entry-level engineers have the opportunity to work on lots of different types of interesting projects.”
