Westfield Washington Schools (WWS) has announced the appointment of two new assistant principals who will join the leadership team, effective July 1, 2025.
Both bring experience, passion, and a student-centered mindset that will further support WWS’ mission of ensuring high levels of learning and growth for each student.

Shamrock Springs Elementary welcomes Chris Barker as the new assistant principal. He comes to WWS from Cincinnati, where he currently serves as an assistant principal. With a strong background in educational leadership and a focus on fostering a positive school culture, he was selected from a competitive pool of over 80 applicants.
Barker and his wife, along with their two young sons (ages 2 and 4), say they are looking forward to becoming part of the vibrant Westfield community. His leadership style and dedication to student success make him a perfect fit for Shamrock Springs.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Chris to the Shamrock Springs team,” Shamrock Springs Elementary School Principal Robb Hedges said. “His energy, experience, and genuine care for students will help lead our school into an exciting future.”

Carey Ridge Elementary announces that Jen Rivera has been named the new assistant principal, bringing over two decades of educational experience and a strong history of leadership within WWS.
Rivera has dedicated the last 20 years to education, with 16 of those years serving the students and families of Westfield. She is currently a kindergarten teacher at Carey Ridge and has previously served in a variety of roles, including literacy teacher, English Learner (EL) teacher, developmental preschool teacher, and K-3 general education teacher. Her wide range of classroom experiences and deep commitment to student success have made her a valued leader in the district.
“Jen has been a teacher leader for years and is a perfect fit for Carey Ridge,” Carey Ridge Elementary School Principal Andy Hilton said. “Jen is deeply committed to fostering meaningful relationships and working collaboratively with students, families, and staff. Her passion for connection and teamwork will be a tremendous asset to Carey Ridge, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome her into this leadership role.”
Rivera and her husband are proud parents of four children (ages 16, 14, 9, and 8) who all attend Westfield schools. Her personal and professional investment in the community runs deep, and she brings a compassionate, student-centered approach to leadership.
