Westfield’s basketball teams won both games of a girl-boy doubleheader at Frankton on Thursday.
The Shamrock girls used a big second half to come back and beat the Eagles 57-51. Westfield trailed 27-21 at halftime, but had the game tied at 37-37 after three quarters, then took control with a 20-point fourth quarter.
Jade Shipley scored 18 points, including an 8-of-9 effort from the free-throw line. Sophia Kreag and Megan Rops both added 10 points. Annabelle O’Hair grabbed nine rebounds, with Kreag collecting six and Ava Henson getting five. O’Hair and Ryann Bunting each made two blocked shots.
In the boys game, Westfield won 79-62. The ‘Rocks jumped ahead in the second quarter, turning a 20-17 first-quarter deficit into a 39-31 halftime lead. Westfield then added 29 points in the fourth period.
Zach Banks poured in 27 points for the Shamrocks, with Chris Chin adding 18. Camden Simons had seven rebounds.
The Westfield girls are now 11-5 and play at Bishop Chatard on Wednesday. The Shamrock boys are 4-4 and host Carmel on Saturday, Jan. 6 for their next game.
