On Thursday, the City of Westfield announced its crime rate decreased for the fourth consecutive year. This is key highlight in the Westfield Police Department 2019 Annual Report.
“Keeping our community safe is a priority,” said Westfield Mayor Andy Cook. “I am confident in the men and women who make up the Westfield Police Department. Day in and day out, they show their dedication to protecting and serving this community. The fact that our crime rate decreased yet again is further proof of this commitment to excellence.”
Rush
“As our department grows, we have shown that we can manage transition,” said Westfield Police Chief Joel Rush. “Our team, whether they have been a member of the department for years or are new to the city, meets and exceeds the demands of being the fastest growing city in Indiana.”
In 2019, Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) decreased, for the fourth year in a row, from 562 to 501.
UCR is a national statistical account of data on crime in a specific area conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Westfield also saw a decrease in homicides, burglaries, simple batteries and thefts.
The Westfield Police Department also reported on the continued success of the Police Substations and Directed Patrols program in partnership with Westfield Washington Schools. The goal of the program is to provide enhanced security and consistent police presence at all schools in the district by encouraging officers to visit a school substation in their assigned patrol district to complete office-related tasks.
