The Westfield Parks and Recreation Department celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of the Simon Moon Park redevelopment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 3. Mayor Scott Willis and Parks and Recreation Director Chris McConnell made remarks at the event.
“From the outset, our goal for Simon Moon Park was to revitalize this space and transform it into a park that meets the needs of our growing community,” McConnell said. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and excited for the additional phases and improvements already underway.”
Phase 1 introduces several key upgrades to the park, including:
- A reshaped pond
- A new boardwalk and bridge
- A redesigned sledding hill
- An expanded and reconfigured parking lot
Future improvements will include a sledding pavilion, outdoor classroom, accessible playground, park shelters, and additional amenities designed to support year-round recreation, exploration, and learning.
