Clubs work together to get Indiana Diabetes Youth Camp ready for kids
On Saturday, April 29, the Westfield Lions Club and Noblesville Lions Club worked together for a “day of service” at the Diabetes Youth Foundation Camp in Noblesville. Fifteen Lions spent a few hours opening up the facility after the winter shutdown, cleaning up the camp, and preparing cabins for the campers.
“Camp Until a Cure” is the only camp in Indiana owned, designed, and operated specifically for the needs of children with diabetes. Located in Noblesville, Camp Until a Cure hosts children and teenagers battling Type 1 diabetes. Swimming, crafts, hiking, paintball, archery, challenge courses and award-winning science programs with diabetes education, along with a full-time medical staff, give diabetic youth an opportunity to enjoy the experiences of a summer camp.
The facility, which opened in 1989, offers family camps, as well as overnight, day, and teen camp weekends. It is the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana’s belief that every child should have the opportunity to come to camp.
This is the first time the Lions have been able to get back to working together at the camp since COVID-19 restrictions. In years past, the two clubs have made it an annual project to meet at the camp in April to begin prepping the facility for the kids. This effort is part of Lions Clubs International’s motto “We Serve” and follows the organization’s commitment to reducing the prevalence of diabetes and improving the lives of those who suffer from it.
The excellent relationship between the two clubs has allowed them to partner together on other projects, including days of service at the Third Phase Homeless Shelter.
