Dear Editor:

Last Saturday, Westfield mayoral candidate Kristen Burkman released the following statement regarding the city’s ongoing process on what to do with Grand Park.

“I’m thrilled to learn the committee studying the proposals for Grand Park has announced that selling Grand Park is no longer under consideration. The committee will now move to a phase two of considering management proposals.

“Grand Park is Westfield’s most strategic asset and should be utilized to enhance our commercial tax base.

“I remain committed to my position that Grand Park is vital to our youth sports’ programs and that maintaining control of an asset is the best way to ensure Grand Park works for our children and our tax paying citizens. I have an executive marketing background and extensive experience with travel sports. I see the vast potential of Grand Park and will make it a top priority to optimize every opportunity associated with Grand Park for our citizens.”
