The Westfield Lions Club and the Westfield Education Foundation (WEF) made surprise grant presentations on Feb. 9 to two classes at the high school.

The Westfield Lions make an annual donation of $4,000 to the Westfield Education Foundation, with $1,000 of it going to the Food & Culinary Sciences (FCS) program, $1,000 to the school’s choir program, and $2,000 going to teacher grants for classroom projects.

The Westfield Lions Club has worked extremely hard over the years to develop a strong connection with the Westfield school system. In addition to the annual grants to the WEF, the Lions have supported the students and teachers by providing numerous grants and donations, including to the robotics teams and the “Leader in Me” program, dictionaries for every third grader, and vision assistance for students needing glasses.

The WHS Culinary Arts and Choir programs are especially important to the Lions. The WHS Foodies, part of the FCS program (and the Lions’ “official caterer”), have provided numerous meals at Lions Club events over the years, and Signature Sound Choir entertains the Club every year at the Club’s annual Christmas program.

The Westfield Lions Club has been a part of the Westfield community since being chartered in 1930. Now meeting in its new building at 1031 E. 169th St., the club welcomes men and women interested in becoming members and making a difference in Westfield. Go to WestfieldLions.org to find out more about the club and how to join.
