New member, birthday celebration & clubhouse renovation project
Submitted
The Westfield Lions Club’s meeting on Thursday was fun and full of big news as they inducted another new member, celebrated a member’s birthday, and approved the final plans for their clubhouse renovation project.
Kinsey Priebe is now the newest member of the Westfield Lions Club and was inducted by 54-year member Past District Governor Bob Benson. Priebe’s addition to the Club brings its membership up to 61 members. That gives the Westfield Lions, by far, the biggest growth percentage of any Lions Club in the district this year.
Before inducting Priebe into the Club, the members surprised (and embarrassed) Lion Brian Abraham for his 60th birthday. A birthday sash, singing “Happy Birthday,” and a cake with candles helped make up for Abraham spending this milestone birthday at a Lions Club meeting.
The big news of the night was the presentation from the Club’s Building Committee on plans to move forward with renovation of the clubhouse, located at 1031 E. 169th St. The members were given key details on what type of work would be done and how it would be funded. The final plans will now be cleaned up so the Club can welcome construction bids. In addition to updating the interior of the building, the project will include new ADA-compliant bathrooms, a kitchen, additions to the south and east of the existing building, and a new front entrance.
Once the Club has completed the renovations, the public will be able to rent clubhouse for events, just like at their previous location. The Westfield Lions want to provide a convenient, updated, low-priced option for families and organizations to use for their events. An open house event will take place once the project is complete and the building is ready for the public.
