The Westfield Lions Club is collecting donations of clothing, hygiene products and non-perishable food items for Indianapolis-area homeless veterans. All items collected will go to support the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF). The HVAF works to provide housing and reintegration services to veterans experiencing or at-risk for homelessness.
Approximately 120,000 veterans in the U.S. are forced to live on the streets each year – that comprises about 33 percent of the homeless population in our country. HVAF needs the public’s help to address this issue on a local basis. Not only does the HVAF need donated items to help the homeless vets, they also need monetary donations and for people to volunteer their time to help the vets.
The Westfield Lions Club will collect the following types of donations until Wednesday, Feb. 5:
- Non-perishable food items (canned meat, fruit and soups; pasta and pasta sauce; peanut butter and jelly)
- Towels, pillows and washcloths
- Men’s long johns, boxer briefs, shaving cream, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner
- Women’s feminine products, lotion, shaving cream, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner
- Monetary (checks can be made out to the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation)
The public can drop off their donations at any of three locations:
- Sobczak Construction, 216 Jersey St., Westfield, (317) 844-9576
- Busby Eye Care, 16409 Southpark Drive, Ste. B, Westfield, (317) 896-5005
- Vision One Real Estate, 3501 Westfield Road, Westfield, (317) 804-5333
If you are unable to make it to one of the drop off locations, but would like to make a donation, call the Westfield Lions Club at (317) 416-8330 to arrange for a Lion to pick up your donation.
