Westfield invites students to take part in Veterans Day Ceremony poster & essay contest

Westfield city officials have announced the first annual Veterans Day Ceremony Poster & Essay Contest.

This initiative was created to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans. The contest is open to all students in Westfield Washington Schools, private schools, and homeschools. However, the student must reside in Westfield or Washington Township. Submission deadline is Oct. 25. Interested participants should review the contest requirements below.

Poster contest

Eligibility:

  • Open to students in K-6
  • Must live in the City of Westfield or Washington Township

Requirements:

  • Poster size: 11-by-17 inches
  • Theme title to include: Honoring Service & Sacrifice
  • Include a strong visual element (e.g., soldier, flag)
  • Content must be appropriate (no vulgar language or imagery)
  • Drop off at Westfield City Services: 2728 E. 171st St.
  • Write the child’s first and last name, age, and grade on the back of the poster
  • Include the parent or guardian’s first and last name, phone number, and email address with the poster (for artwork return)
  • One winner from each grade (K-6) will receive a monetary prize
  • Posters will be displayed and presented during the Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11

Essay contest

Eligibility:

  • Open to students in grades 7-12
  • Must live in the City of Westfield or Washington Township

Requirements:

  • Must address the theme: Honoring Service & Sacrifice
  • Can be a short essay, poem, or other written format
  • Content must be appropriate (no vulgar language or imagery)
  • Submit by dropping off at Westfield City Services, 2728 E. 171st St., or by emailing communications@westfield.in.gov
  • Include the student’s first and last name, age, and grade
  • Include the parent or guardian’s first and last name, phone number, and email address with the submission (for essay return)
  • One winner from each grade (7-12) will receive a monetary prize
  • Winners will read their work during the Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11
