Five Hamilton County wrestling teams participated in the annual Shamrock Duals, which took place last Saturday at Westfield.
Carmel finished as the team runner-up. The Greyhounds went unbeaten in its pool with wins over Noblesville, Greencastle and Fort Wayne Carroll, beat Hamilton Southeastern in the semifinals before dropping the championship match to Roncalli. Caleb Mattingly (at 132 pounds) and Eli Penquite (at 138) both went undefeated.
Fishers took third place as a team. The Tigers beat Norwell, Homestead and Lawrence North to place first in their pool, lost to Roncalli in the semis, but beat Southeastern in the third-place match. Four Fishers wrestlers went unbeaten: Chayce Yant (126), Teyon Leonard (138), Xavier Smtih (165) and Chris Quarles (190).
Southeastern finished in fourth place. The Royals won their pool by beating Yorktown, Ben Davis and Mount Vernon to reach the top four. Adam Gerstner (150) and Zach Lang (157) were undefeated for the day.
Westfield finished in fifth place. The ‘Rocks were 2-1 in their pool, beating Mundelein and Whiteland before falling to Roncalli. Westfield finished fifth with placement wins over Lawrence North and Noblesville. Four Shamrocks were unbeaten: Porter Temples (120), Carter Niccum (3-0 at 126), Jake Saez (138) and Riley Davison (3-0 at 190).
Noblesville placed sixth overall. The Millers beat Greencastle and Carroll in their pool while falling to Carmel. In the placement matches, Noblesville beat Ben Davis before losing to Westfield. Undefeated Millers wrestlers were Aidan Kincaide (157), Gage Gulley (175) and Austin Hastings (285).
