Westfield hires Kelsey Key as new girls basketball head coach

Westfield High School has hired Kelsey Key as its new girls basketball coach, the school announced Wednesday morning.
Key is currently an assistant coach at Cedarville University in Ohio. Prior to that she has been an assistant coach at Gannon University (Penn.), Indiana Wesleyan University, and Bethel College. She was part of coaching staffs that won conference championships and received NCAA tournament berths.
Key graduated from Frankton High School and played collegiately at Northern Kentucky University and Indiana Wesleyan University. At IWU, she was an all conference player, a Third team All-American, and an Academic All-American.
“First I would like to thank Andy Tebbe, Ginny Smith, and the entire Westfield staff for this incredible opportunity,” said Key. “My greatest desire in coaching is to use basketball as a tool to develop relationships that inspire growth in all areas of my athletes lives. As a program, we will seek to build on the great traditions laid before us by relentlessly pursuing our individual best daily. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve and be a part of the Westfield community and am excited to meet the players and families that make up Lady Rock Basketball.”
“Kelsey had a certain ‘it’ factor that elevated her to the top to be our new coach,” said Westfield athletic director Andy Tebbe. “As we got to know her during the interview process, and in talking with college head coaches that she coached under as an assistant, a constant theme became very apparent. Kelsey builds excellent relationships with players and her basketball IQ and hunger for the game is at an extreme level. Her character and what she values aligns with what we value at WHS. It became very clear that she was primed to be the next leader of Lady Shamrock Basketball.”
Key will teach Health/PE at WHS in addition to coaching. She will finish up her college coaching responsibilities at the end of April and plans to be in Westfield in early May to meet with players and parents.
