Another year, another first-time Hamilton County gymnastics team advancing to the regional.
This time, Westfield got it done. In their first-ever gymnastics season, the Shamrocks placed third at the tough Lafayette Jefferson sectional, thus punching their ticket to the Valparaiso regional.
The gymnastics sectional took place last Saturday. Harrison won the team championship with 102.30 points, edging out the host Bronchos, who scored 102.175. Westfield got the third advancing spot with a 99.85; the top three teams advance from the sectional to the regional.
The Shamrocks were led by Elianna Reynolds, who placed fourth in the all-around with a score of 34.125. Reynolds also won medals in two events, taking third in the balance beam with a 9.00 and fourth in the uneven bars, scoring 8.175. Molly Moskovitz had the highest place and score for Westfield, taking second in the floor exercise with a 9.25.
Fishers finished with a team score of 81.35. Savannah Strange had the highest place for the Tigers, taking 11th in the balance beam with an 8.30.
Noblesville had two gymnasts competing, and their best scores were in the vault. Alayna Lotridge posted an 8.10, while Kylie Lotridge scored an 8.05.
Guerin Catholic’s Lyrric Barnett placed 17th in the all-around; her best event was the vault, where she was 12th with a score of 8.55.
The Valparaiso regional takes place this Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. (noon Central Time).
