Westfield Green Together, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental stewardship and community engagement, recently announced it contributed 780 volunteer hours to the City of Westfield in 2023.

This dedicated effort demonstrates the organization’s commitment to enhancing Westfield’s natural beauty and sustainability.

The hardworking volunteers of Westfield Green Together invested 318 hours in Westfield parks and public spaces, focusing on removing invasive species and planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials. Notable areas impacted include Asa Bales Park, Raymond Worth Park, McGregor Park, and the Midland Trace trail.

In addition, the organization devoted 443 hours to the creation and maintenance of vegetable gardens at three Westfield elementary schools: Maple Glen, Monon Trail, and Washington Woods. These gardens serve as valuable educational tools for students, with the produce being donated to the Culinary Arts Program at Westfield High School. The ongoing commitment to the Sharing Garden, located behind the Wandering Peacock Art Studio on Jersey Street, has provided both produce and educational opportunities to the local community, with any surplus donated to Open Doors Food Pantry.

Beyond these impactful initiatives, Westfield Green Together invested the remaining volunteer hours in educational outreach throughout the community. The organization believes in the power of education to inspire positive change and sustainability.

“We want our community to be aware of the significant work that Westfield Green Together quietly does behind the scenes to improve sustainability and natural habitats in Westfield,” said Sarah Gillim, President at Westfield Green Together. “Our volunteers’ dedication has made a substantial impact, and we invite everyone to join us in supporting these crucial efforts in 2024.”

As Westfield Green Together looks ahead to the new year, the organization calls upon the support of the community and stakeholders to ensure the continued success of their projects. By supporting Westfield Green Together, individuals and businesses contribute to the preservation and enhancement of parks and natural spaces throughout Westfield.

“We are looking forward to continuing to partner with outstanding organizations like Westfield Green Together to advance beautification efforts within our city,” Mayor Scott Willis said.
