The Westfield girls basketball team put together a superior defensive effort on Wednesday.
The Shamrocks beat Bishop Chatard 41-13 in a home game at CSI Gymnasium. Westfield was in control from the beginning, leading the Trojans 11-1 after one quarter and 22-4 at halftime.
The Rocks never allowed Chatard more than five points in one period. Those 13 total points were the lowest total a Westfield team allowed an opponent since Nov. 28, 2009, when the Shamrocks beat Harrison 40-12.
Lindsey Van Dyke scored 13 points to lead the Westfield scoring. Ellie Kelleher had an outstanding all-around game with eight rebounds, eight assists and seven points. Kiki Loveless collected six rebounds, while Aubrey Crockett pulled five rebounds; both Loveless and Crockett blocked two shots.
The Shamrocks are 10-7. Westfield’s Saturday game with Hamilton Heights is postponed; the Rocks are next scheduled to play Jan. 13 at Hamilton Southeastern.
