Oak Trace Elementary School’s Lilly Freeman and her brother, Westfield Intermediate School’s Ben Freeman, recently accepted the Hoosier Homestead Award on behalf of their family in recognition of their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres. If less than 20 acres, the farm must produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year.
Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch awarded the family for its work on the Brandt Farm, located in Benton County, that was founded in 1886. The farm grows soybeans and corn.
