The Westfield City Council adopted the 2018 operating budget at Monday night’s meeting.
61 percent of the budget will go towards public safety spending, including the hiring of two new police officers.
Other funding has been designated for public works projects, including designing a roundabout at 161st Street and Union Street, construction of the Monon Trail bridge over State Road 32, road resurfacing and extending Westfield Boulevard from State Road 32 to David Brown Drive.
One of Westfield’s parks will also get a facelift with the installation of new playground and fitness equipment at Asa Bales Park.
Westfield’s Net Assessed Value has increased by nine percent over the past three budget cycles.
