The city of Westfield officially opened the new extension for Westfield Boulevard earlier this week with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We hope this new roadway will provide an alternate way for people to get around Westfield without having to get on and off US 31,” Mayor Andy Cook said. “It will also hopefully allow more people to easily access Westfield’s great downtown.”

The Westfield Boulevard extension project began several years ago in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Transportation. The extension is designed to facilitate traffic flow to downtown and provide frontage to local businesses that had previously been located along US 31 prior to its being elevated.

Cost for construction was approximately $2.8 million, with a portion of that cost being paid for by utility sale funds. The extension adds nearly one lane mile to Westfield’s road network.
