WeBo runs away from Blackhawks

A close first quarter turned into an overwhelming win for Western Boone over Sheridan Friday night at Bud Wright Stadium.
The Class 2A No. 7 Stars beat the 1A No. 8 Blackhawks 50-12. Sheridan started the game well, with scoring both of its touchdowns in the first period. Jesse Kolb took a 22-yard pass from Drake Delph into the end zone with 9:48 left in the quarter, then James Manis ran a 70-yard kickoff return in to score with under two minutes in the period.
The game was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter, but the ‘Hawks wouldn’t score again. Meanwhile, WeBo poured in 24 points in the second period, and added 14 more in the second half.
“The second quarter was a terrible quarter for us,” said Sheridan coach Bud Wright. “Everybody started playing individualistic. We just got beat right there in the second quarter.”
Manis led the offense with 39 yards in nine rushes. Nick Burnell had 11 carries for 35 yards.
Next up for the Blackhawks is a trip to Clinton Central next Friday. The game will also serve as Sheridan’s opener in Hoosier Heartland Conference play.
