We all scream for ice cream

There’s something about summer that makes ice cream taste even sweeter. On those long, hot days, a single scoop feels like a tiny miracle – the kind that melts not just in your mouth, but straight into your heart.

Growing up in India, hot summer days meant one thing – ice cream. It was the ultimate way to stay cool, no matter how high the temperature climbed. I still remember the joy of licking those dripping flavors, feeling both satisfied and happy at the same time. I’ve always been a pecan girl at heart, but if pecans weren’t around, I’d settle for a simple scoop of classic vanilla. Because for me, ice cream is more than just a treat – it’s a craving, a little burst of comfort, and a reason to pause when life feels like a rollercoaster.

Last week, I had my first taste of Kokomo’s famous Turtle Sundae ice cream, and it was worth every spoonful. My co-worker went out of their way to bring back a whole bucket for our team, and for a few moments, our office felt like the happiest little ice cream parlor in town. Between deadlines and meetings, we often forget to step outside, soak in the sunshine, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. But one creamy bite was all it took to bring back those childhood memories.

Now, raising my kids in Hamilton County, we’re lucky to have so many places to enjoy ice cream as a family. Our go-to is Handel’s, where the Greyhound Crunch and Pistachio are family favorites. We’ve also made sweet memories at Graeter’s, Brics, and plenty more local spots. These places are more than just ice cream shops – they’re gathering places for ice cream lovers, social spots where people come together for the simple pleasure of a cool treat on a warm day.

I always tell people: think beyond the scoop. With so many delicious varieties to choose from, there’s always a new combination waiting to surprise you. And while I’m sure there are flavors I haven’t tried yet, the ones I have? They’re already perfect enough to melt for.
