The Guerin Catholic boys basketball team was dealt a tough defeat in the first round of the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament Thursday morning at Kokomo.
The Golden Eagles fell to Warren Central 41-40 in a back-and-forth game. The Warriors led 12-9 after the first quarter, but Guerin Catholic came back to lead 22-21 at halftime. Warren then dominated the third quarter, leading 33-27 by the end of the period. The Warriors led 38-30 at one point during the fourth quarter before the Golden Eagles came back, but Warren Central was able to hang on for the win.
Robert Sorensen reached double-double status for Guerin Catholic, scoring 17 points (including three 3-pointers) and collecting 10 rebounds. Dylan Murans had six rebounds.
The Golden Eagles are 4-4 and will play Columbia City at 10 a.m. this morning in one of the consolation games at the tournament.
