Warren LeRoy “Roy” Overdorf

October 12, 1930 – September 25, 2017

Warren LeRoy “Roy” Overdorf, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Sheridan surrounded by his loving family on Monday afternoon, September 25, 2017. Born October 12, 1930 in Hamilton County, he was the son of the late Glen Overdorf and Opal (Yantis) Overdorf-Watson.

Roy attended Tipton High School until his senior year, at which time he moved to Sheridan and would graduate with the Sheridan HS Class of 1948. After graduation he would enter the workforce, working for a few businesses in Sheridan before hiring on with the Delco Remy in Anderson. During Roy’s 12 years with Delco, he would take leave to honorably serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After returning home from the service, Roy returned to work at Delco. In June of 1966, Roy went to work for the Woodman A.L. Life Insurance Company. This was a position he would hold until leaving the company in 1983 to open Overdorf Lake – Fish and Camp Park. He would own and operate the pay lake until his retirement in 2013.

He was a member of the East Union Christian Church and the Sheridan First Christian Church. Roy was also very active in the Sheridan Rotary Club, of which he was member for close to 50 years.

Roy is survived by his son, Kyle E. Overdorf (Sherri) of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; his daughter, Kimberly E. Kinkead (Dennis) of Noblesville; four grandchildren, Zachary Kinkead, Jordan Kinkead, Quinn Overdorf and Dane Overdorf; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patricia Overdorf–Fairbanks and Carol Ann (Overdorf) Moss–Law; and by the love of his life, his wife Judy M. (Dell) Overdorf in January of 2000. She and Roy were married on June 15, 1957.

Services were held at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Pastor Stephen Yarbrough officiated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be presented to the American Cancer Society.
