Von Earl Pitts, 83, Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville. He was born in Sheridan on January 31, 1938 to Earl Otis and Hilda Eleanor (Baugh) Pitts Barker.
Von grew up in Sheridan and was a 1956 graduate of Sheridan High School. He went on to serve in the United States Army as an SP4, where he worked in the mailroom. He earned several certificates including: Basic Combat Training, Military Law, Course B Military Justice, and Basic Administration. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1963.
He was employed at the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo as a tool and die maker, working many seven-day work weeks. He retired on May 31, 1990, after 30 years of service.
He was a lifelong resident of Sheridan and a member of American Legion Post 67 and the Masonic Lodge. He had an eight-acre plot of land on the south edge of Sheridan where he enjoyed spending time cutting down hundreds of crabapple trees and keeping the grass cut. He also owned several rental properties in Sheridan, one being a well-known bar and grill at the corner of 5th & Main. He also loved spoiling the many dogs he had over the years.
He is survived by his half-brother, Danny (Marjean) Pitts; children, Tammy (Robert) Hunt and Tracy Pitts; grandchildren, Jeremy (Wendi) Tomlinson and Ashley (Grey) Donner; and great-grandchildren, Jillian Tomlinson, Ethan Tomlinson, Ashton Koors, and Charlotte Donner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Don Eugene Barker.
A celebration of life reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at American Legion Post 67, 406 E. 10th St., Sheridan.
