Volunteer during SERVE Noblesville’s 10th SERVE Week

Hundreds of red-shirted volunteers will be deployed throughout Hamilton County each day June 23-26, tackling 100 community projects as part of SERVE Noblesville’s 10th annual campaign to connect compassionate neighbors. There’s still time to join them.

Volunteer registration for SERVE Week is open until June 21, giving residents of all ages and abilities plenty of chances to make a difference in a variety of ways. New projects this year include drawing pastel art designs on the Noblesville Riverwalk with Nickel Plate Arts, cleaning up along the busy Midland Trace Trail, and painting murals on several garages in an Old Town alley.

“We’re putting beauty out in the world after a long pandemic year,” SERVE Noblesville Executive Director Patrick Propst said, describing the mural projects.

Working under the guidance of a local muralist, volunteers will paint several garages in the alley between Cherry and Maple streets downtown. Propst said the mural projects are expected to be repeated during the next few SERVE Weeks. When a dozen or more murals are completed, they will be curated as a walking tour of alley art.

After a year’s hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular U-Call We-Haul and Community Giveaway are back on the schedule. Volunteers collect clothing, furniture, and other household items from neighbors in the community, then sort and organize them before giving them away from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 26 at the Noblesville Boys & Girls Club.

Volunteers can sign up for SERVE Week projects on the day – or days – and times that work best for them: 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m., or 5 to 7 p.m. The Wednesday to Friday evening volunteer shift, packing meals for the International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES) is new in 2021.

Also new this year: Rather than welcoming volunteers each morning at a central location and then sending them off to their projects, Greek’s Pizzeria will play host to Serve Week’s Kickoff event from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 22 at the Boys & Girls Club to provide volunteers with project details, distribute 10th anniversary T-shirts, free pizza, and more. Project information also will be available via email that evening.

The Serve Noblesville Cultural Celebration, launched in 2018 to celebrate the cultural diversity found in the city, has been reimagined as FUN Fest: Food, Unity & Neighbors, a Place Everyone is Welcome Who Welcomes Everyone. It is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Boys & Girls Club.
