Volleyball: Westfield, Carmel, Heights beat their opponents

The Westfield volleyball team picked up a four-set win over Pendleton Heights on Monday, 25-16, 25-22, 15-25, 25-22.

Senior Emma Dodson led the Shamrocks’ offense with 11 kills, followed by freshman Ella Jenkins with nine and junior Chloe Sutake with seven. Junior setter Lilly Stanton handed out 31 assists. On defense, senior co-captains Mallory Weber collected 17 digs and Mallory Neale had 14 digs.

Westfield is 2-1 and hosts Cathedral on Wednesday.

Carmel swept Avon, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 in a Tuesday match at the Eric Clark Activity Center.

The Greyhounds controlled the serve and pass, which led to a high-efficiency offense. Lauren Evans hit 17 kills, while Emily Waddell put down 14 kills. Avery Carroll hit five kills and Emerson Evans had three.

Emerson Evans also dished out 34 assists, while collecting four digs. Lauren Dossey made 12 digs, with Lauren Evans and Waddell both getting eight digs. Carroll served six aces and Peyton Ulrey hit two aces. Jessica Pickett had three blocks.

Carmel plays tonight at Yorktown.

Hamilton Heights won a rivalry match over Tipton in four sets Tuesday, 25-20, 28-26, 21-25, 25-19.

Senior setter Callie Thomas played well in setting up her hitters, sophomore Jessa Steffen made big saves in the back row and freshman Macie Smith hit the ball strong.

The Huskies play tonight at New Palestine.

University was swept by Clinton Central in a Tuesday away match, 25-9, 25-22, 26-24.

Freshman libero Quinlan Litke had a solid passing performance for the Trailblazers, who host International on Thursday.

Sheridan also was swept in a Tuesday match, falling at Lebanon 25-14, 25-22, 25-8.

Senne IJzer hit four kills for the Blackhwaks, followed by Claudia Headlee with three and Shelby Eaton with two. Nova Cross handed out 12 assists. Jacquellynne Bates led the defense with 13 digs, followed by Payton Warren, IJzer and Emma Settles with seven digs each. Meredith Krupp had five digs and served two aces, while Warren had one ace.

Sheridan hosts International at 6 p.m. tonight in a varsity-only match.
