Volleyball: Westfield boys start season

The Westfield boys volleyball team began its season last Saturday at the Cathedral Invitational.

The Shamrocks were 1-3 at the tournament. Westfield’s win came against North Putnam in a two-set sweep, 25-13, 25-15.

The ‘Rocks fell to Hamilton Southeastern in two sets, 25-22, 25-17. CJ Fox hit six kills, while Carlo Huisden put down five kills. Westfield then dropped a close three-set match to Fishers, 25-22, 16-25, 16-14. Huisden had 12 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Max Hammond put down eight kills, while Graham France had three kills and three blocks.

In their final match of the day, the Shamrocks lost to the No. 2-ranked host Cathedral 25-22, 25-18. Fox hit eight kills, while Hammond and Huisden both put down four kills.

Westfield traveled to Brebeuf Jesuit on Tuesday and won in four sets, 23-25, 25-8, 25-14, 25-13.

Huisden, a Purdue Fort Wayne commit, dominated the match with 23 kills, 14 digs and two aces. Fox hit 11 kills. Graham Weddige dished out 29 assists and served four aces, while Fletcher Farrar made four solo blocks.

Westfield is 2-3 for the season and hosts Lawrence North on Thursday for its first home match of the season.
