Volleyball: ‘Tough serving’ leads Greyhounds to sweep

The Carmel volleyball team swept Zionsville Wednesday, 25-14, 25-12, 25-9 in a match at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
Ella Brooks hit 11 kills for the Greyhounds, in addition to making six digs and serving one ace. Emily Waddell had 10 kills and two blocks, while Macarty McQueen hit seven kills and made one block.
Savanna Rogers and Lauren Evans both put down four kills, with Ella Bostic dishing out 38 assists and hitting three kills herself. Rogers made two blocks, Evans had 11 digs and one ace, and Bostic collected six digs and served five aces. Carmel coach Kristine Deem said that “tough serving” and a well-balanced and strong offense led the team to victory.
The Greyhounds are 10-4 and will travel to Providence on Saturday to play two matches.

Sheridan dropped a tough five-set match to Irvington Prep Academy on Wednesday. The score was 19-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 15-13.
Blackhawks coach Melissa Jump said her team was “missing several key players and many players saw playing time in different positions” than normal.
Kenzie Garner led the ‘Hawks with 10 assists, nine digs, eight kills, six aces and one solo block. Claudia Headlee hit 11 kills. Jacquellynne Bates collected 19 digs and served five aces.
Payton Warren had 12 digs and 10 kills. Emma Settles dished out 12 assists and served three aces, with Valerie Adams also hitting three aces.
Sheridan hosts Carroll tonight in a Hoosier Heartland Conference match.
