The Fishers volleyball team scored an upset of Class 4A No. 3 Avon in four sets Thursday, 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference match.
The Tigers were led by their blocking, as they made 12 blocks in the match and had all six front row players get at least one block. Haley Soper collected three blocks, while Jada Allen made 2.5.
“Closing to their teammates and sealing the net allowed Fishers’ defense to be at its best,” said Tigers coach Steven Peek.
As for the offense, Camryn Haworth put down 12 kills on 0.346 attacking, also making seven digs and serving two aces. Audrey Haworth spiked 11 kills on 0.259 attacking, collecting eight digs and hitting three aces. Bryn Roberts added nine kills and five aces.
Senior libero Emma Rosenberg made 17 digs, while setter Rose Duffy handed out 35 assists, along with three digs, three kills and two blocks.
Fishers will play at the Martinsville Invitational on Saturday.
Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 4 in 4A, also won a hard-fought, four-set match on Thursday, beating Zionsville 25-19, 27-29, 25-15, 25-21 in an HCC match.
Four Royals reached double-digit kills: Grace Hunter hit 15 kills, while Taylor Shelton had 26 digs to go along with her 13 kills. Delaney Garner and Zada Anderson both put down 13 kills as well.
Carly Mills collected 25 digs, while Lillian Leiner had 21 digs. Olivia Phillips handed out 43 assists.
“Defensively I thought we were incredibly good tonight,” said HSE coach Jason Young. “The passion and effort that the kids played with was the difference in the match.”
The Royals are now tied for the lead in the conference at 4-1 and are 18-5 overall.
Noblesville dropped a Hoosier Crossroads Conference match to Franklin Central on Thursday, 25-22, 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-6.
Ava Nichols handed out 46 assists and collected 14 digs, while Lexie Almodovar put down 24 kills and also had 14 digs.
Sheridan fell to 2A No. 4 Lapel in straight sets on Thursday, 25-15, 25-13, 25-17.
Maddie Zola collected nine digs and served one ace. Olivia Raines also had nine digs, with Holly Barker making seven digs. Allie Delph had nine digs, four kills and three assists. Becca Merritt made 10 blocks, while Cheyenne Brooks had seven blocks.
The Blackhawks will play at University on Monday.
Hamilton Heights dropped a Wednesday match to Lapel in four sets, 25-23, 11-25, 25-21, 25-10.
Kennedy Lewis had 32 attacks for the Huskies, with Hannah Crist making 28 attacks.
