Volleyball: Shamrocks best Huskies in all-county match

The Westfield volleyball team won an all-county match at Hamilton Heights on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-18, 25-12.

Emma Dodson hit 17 kills for the Shamrocks, with Ella Jenkins putting down 12. Izzy Jackson handed out 22 assists, with Lilly Stanton dishing out 14.

Mallory Weber collected 17 digs, with Mallory Neale getting 14 and Lilly Tucker getting 12. Taylor Welch totaled four blocks.

Katie Brown led the Huskies’ defense with several digs.

Westfield improved to 13-10 and hosts Fishers on Thursday in its HCC and regular-season finales.

Meanwhile, Heights finished third at Saturday’s Hoosier Conference tournament.

The Huskies swept Northwestern in their first match, 25-16, 25-23. That sent Heights into the semi-finals, where it lost to West Lafayette 26-24, 25-18. In the third-place match, the Huskies beat Lafayette Central Catholic in a hard-fought contest, 20-25, 25-15, 16-14.

Heights is 13-11 and plays Thursday at Sheridan.

Noblesville swept New Palestine Monday, 25-20, 25-11, 25-15.

The Millers improved to 20-5 and host Brownsburg Thursday in their Hoosier Crossroads Conference finale.

Guerin Catholic won a five-set match over Zionsville Thursday at the Eagles’ Nest, 25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 16-25, 15-10.

The match was the regular-season finale for the Golden Eagles, who are 12-17. Guerin Catholic will host Sectional 27 next week and play Herron in the first round on Oct. 13.

Hamilton Southeastern cruised to a straight-set win over Greenfield-Central on Tuesday, 25-8, 25-11, 25-10.

The Royals are 26-1 and host Franklin Central on Thursday to finish HCC and regular-season play.

Carmel was swept by McCutcheon, one of the top teams in the state, Tuesday at the Eric Clark Activity Center. The set scores were 25-9, 25-19, 25-17.

“We knew McCutcheon was going to be an aggressive competitor,” said Greyhounds coach Kristine Deem. “They’ve had a fantastic year. They’ve got a lot of veteran players, and super quality players.”

Lauren Evans led Carmel’s offense with seven kills, while Emily Waddell and Avery Carroll both hit six kills. Jessica Pickett put down four kills. Carroll also served one ace.

On defense, Lauren Dossey collected 13 digs, followed by nine digs for Evans. Pickett and Kiah Jackson each made five blocks, with Waddell getting three blocks and Carroll making two.

“The focus was, really, to just play our game, work hard and have some fun,” said Deem.

The Greyhounds are 18-8 and play Thursday at Kokomo.

Fishers dropped a four-set match to Yorktown Tuesday, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15.

The Tigers are 17-7 and play at Westfield Thursday to finish their HCC and regular seasons.

Sheridan dropped a Hoosier Heartland Conference match at Tri-Central on Monday, 25-12, 25-13, 25-22.

The Blackhawks finished conference play 2-6 and are 5-17 overall. Sheridan hosts North Montgomery at 6 p.m. tonight.
