Volleyball: Royals open HCC play with sweep

The Hamilton Southeastern volleyball team swept Brownsburg in its Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener on Thursday.
The Royals won 25-21, 25-15, 25-21. Delaney Garner hit 18 kills for Southeastern, with Grace Hunter spiking eight kills. Carly Mills had a solid defensive game with 21 digs. Emily Weber dished out 15 assists to go with three kills, while Olivia Phillips handed out 13 assists and also hit three kills.
“Emily Weber had a strong night along with Olivia Phillips running the Royal attack,” said Royals coach Jason Young.
Southeastern is 3-1 and will travel to Lawrence North on Saturday to take on Providence and Floyd Central.

Noblesville dropped a four-set match to Avon Thursday at The Mill, 25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 25-14.
Lexie Almodovar hit 18 kills for the Milles, with Rose Crist putting down 12 and Mandy Knieper hitting seven. Olivia Gulley served two aces and Almodovar served one. Riley Branch dished out 35 assists. On defense, Almodovar collected 14 digs, followed by Gulley with 10, Branch and Knieper each with seven and Diana Cox with four.
Noblesville is 1-4 and hosts New Castle on Saturday morning.

Fishers toughed out a three-set win at Zionsville on Thursday, 25-20, 15-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11.
The Tigers are 3-3 and play at Anderson on Tuesday.

University got a sweep of International on Thursday, winning 25-19, 25-16, 25-11.
The Trailblazers are and will host Faith Christian at 7:15 p.m. tonight.

Hamilton Heights was swept by Northwestern 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 in a Thursday Hoosier Conference match.
The Huskies are 5-5 and play at Frankton on Tuesday.
In matches earlier this week, Heights beat Tipton in four sets (25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22) and lost to New Palestine in four sets (19-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-22) on Wednesday.
Jordan Fryman hit 17 kills for the Huskies in the Tipton match, with Kelsey Smith hitting 11. Carlie Ward collected 46 digs and Katie Mottweiler had 37.
