The Hamilton Southeastern volleyball team’s remarkable post-season run came to an end last Saturday at the Class 4A north semi-state at Huntington North.
The Royals won their morning semifinal match with a sweep of Penn, 25-15, 25-13, 25-12. Lindsey Mangelson led Southeastern’s offense with 15 kills, while Madison Miles put down 11 kills and Merritt Sliwa hit 10. Maye McConnell served four aces and Ava Hunter dished out 29 assists. Bella Dafforn collected 16 digs, with Mangelson and Hunter both getting 10 digs.
The win sent the Royals to the championship match, where they lost a hard-fought battle to Fort Wayne Carroll in four sets, 20-25, 25-20, 31-29, 25-17. Miles had an incredible game, hitting 23 kills, with Mangelson adding 19 kills and serving six aces. Hunter handed out 45 assists. McConnell made 22 digs and Mangelson had 11 digs.
Southeastern finished its season with a 32-3 record, in addition to Hoosier Crossroads Conference, sectional and regional championships.
